The Berry
Deep countryside, and one of the most written-about corners of rural France - because George Sand wrote about it. Everything below is within a quarter of an hour's drive.
Nohant-Vic
George Sand's house, where she lived and wrote and where Chopin spent his summers. The Festival Chopin plays there every summer.

Château d'Ars
Closer to us than La Châtre. Every July it holds Le Son Continu - the gathering of luthiers and maîtres sonneurs from across Europe.

La Châtre
Shops, a market and restaurants - and the town whose standard history was written by one of this house's own owners.

Le circuit Maurice Tissandier
La Châtre's motor-racing circuit, where Formula 3 raced in the 1970s and 80s - Alain Prost won here in 1979. The track still hosts clubs, novices and track days.

On foot and by bike
Two long-distance routes pass the door: the Chemin des Maîtres Sonneurs, which runs from Nohant across the Berry, and one of the ways walked towards Santiago de Compostela. Walkers arrive on foot, without a car, and leave the same way in the morning.
We keep three bicycles for guests, free to borrow. The lanes here are flat, quiet and largely empty.
Where to eat
We don't serve dinner. La Châtre is seven kilometres away - we work with the Auberge de l'Escargot there, and we are happy to telephone and book you a table. Tell us when you write and it will be arranged before you arrive.
Also within reach
A lake with a nautical base · a golf course · a motor circuit · the racecourse at Lignières.

Ask us about your dates
There is no booking calendar on this site, and that is deliberate: with three rooms we would rather answer you ourselves than let a screen guess. Tell us when you would like to come and you will get a real answer with a real price.
