What this is

A house, not a hotel

We welcome you in person between three and nine in the evening and take you up to your room. In the morning, breakfast is served as a buffet of good local produce, in the dining room or on the terrace if the weather allows.

A breakfast table laid outdoors with bread, jams, a basket and cups.

Three rooms, six beds

Each with its own bathroom and a walk-in shower, across the castle and an outbuilding. La Suite Parentale and La Chambre Éléonore are reached by the spiral staircase, on the second floor of the castle. Bed linen, towels and toiletries are provided in every room.

The suite's first bedroom: a 19th-century brass bed on old terracotta tiles, with a chest of drawers and an armchair.

1 double bed · 1 single bed

La Suite Parentale

Two bedrooms of twenty square metres each, sharing a bathroom with a walk-in shower and WC. The first bedroom has a nineteenth-century brass bed (140 × 190), the second a Louis-Philippe period bed (110 × 185).

A large bed against a deep raspberry wall, with a chest of drawers and an upholstered armchair.

1 double bed · 1 single bed

La Chambre Éléonore

Fifty square metres, divided between the bedroom (30 m²), the bathroom and the hallway. One bed of 160 × 200, one Empire period bed (120 wide), and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and WC.

The room under the old roof timbers: a large bed beside the fireplace.

1 double bed · 1 single bed

La Chambre Liberté

Reached by the outside staircase: forty square metres under a fine eighteenth-century timber roof. One bed of 160 × 200 and an Empire period bed of 110 × 180. Bathroom with WC, walk-in shower and a wardrobe. This room gives you rather more independence.

The path passes the door

The house stands directly on the Chemin des Maîtres Sonneurs and on one of the routes walked towards Santiago de Compostela. Walkers and cyclists stop for a single night and go on in the morning, which is exactly what this house is good at. We keep three bicycles for guests who would rather ride out into the Berry than drive through it.

On the record since 1439

The first mention of this house is a homage paid in 1439 by Jacques des Barres, esquire, seigneur de la Pouzerie. Owners follow in a documented line for five and a half centuries - among them Aubin Simon, who as Simon de la Pouzerie sat with the delegates of the Third Estate for the bailliage of Berry on 23 March 1789, six weeks before the Estates-General opened.

George Sand's corner of the Berry

Deep countryside, and one of the most written-about corners of rural France - because George Sand wrote about it, from a house you can see in a morning.
